- Below 40 years or age or less than 5 years in practice.
- One must be a member of COECSA; full member for practicing ophthalmologists and associate member for residents.
- Willing to make a commitment to the program mentor and stick to it.
- Must be motivated, have a positive attitude, and willing to put in the time and effort it takes.
- Have well defined goals and needs in regard to their career path.
- Willing to take the primary responsibility of keeping up the mentor-mentee relationship.
- Expect guidance, not a problem-solver.
- Be open and receptive to constructive feedback from the mentors and fellow mentees.
- Willing to participate in the Association’s activities.
- Willing to listen, and is patient.

- All residents in institutions in the member countries will be eligible to join the forum regardless of their country of origin.
- Membership will be voluntary.
- Membership to the forum is free; no membership fee.
Responsibilities
of a mentee:
- Willing to participate in the YO Forum’s activities including the online forums.

Succession/
exit:
- Inactive membership- failure to participate in the forum’s activities.
- Inactive relationship with the mentors.
- Failure to pay subscription fee (if any).
- After 5 years as a mentee, one will be given the chance to become a mentor.
- A mentee who has less than 5 years in the mentorship program can participate in
- unstructured mentorship.
